Does a Better Graphics Card = A Better Dedicated Game Server?

Question:

I’m setting up a spare computer of mine to host dedicated game servers. I have two computers, one has a better processor and the other has a better onboard graphics card. What I’m wondering is whether or not graphics cards come into play when hosting a DEDICATED, not listen server. Thanks in advance!

Answer/s:

  • Usually when it comes to hosting a dedicated server if your using software then a better processor is more effective quad cores can do this quite well as you can split up how much of a percentage of your computers main memory you want to go towards a specific process in this case hosting your server. When it comes to hosting the server while your in it a overall better computer in general is the most effective.

  • Negatory. The game server does not keep track of the graphics… only computers that are playing the game need good graphics cards. The game server needs lots of RAM, and a fast CPU.

  • The dedicated server does not need to actually run the game on screen so a better/worse graphics card would make no difference at all. More important is to have a good internet connection with low ping times.
